WEEDS & WHEAT  -  dream

The field appeared to have totally gone to seed. Why it hadn’t been harvested yet?  I stood overlooking a field full of a crop I couldn’t recognize even after the many years of living on a farm. So super thick, it actually looked like a bumper crop of weeds that had already gone to seed. The seed fluff shimmered and were ready to spread at the slightest breeze. Could it really be just a field full of weeds?  My curiosity was piqued and I had to take a closer look.

Just under the height of all the weeds were heads of grain. They were unlike any type of grain or seed that I had ever seen and they clung to the stalk in a unique manner. I reached out, running my hand up a stem to gather the grains into my hand for a closer look. Large, white, and roundish—much like a huge lily-of-the-valley shaped seed—they were still soft and moist. This crop was not yet fully mature yet, not ready for harvest. Although the weeds’ seeds were dead ripe and flying at the slightest breeze, I knew that the gathering of the grain would not happen just yet.

Weeds and wheat growing together—hmmm, seems like a Scripture verse I’ve read before.

Now when the stalk sprouted and produced grain, then the weeds also appeared. [Mt 13:26].

The farmer’s response was…
Let both grow together until the harvest. At harvest time, I will tell the reapers, First, gather up the weeds and tie them in bundles to burn them up; but gather the wheat into my barn. (vs 30).

Sin and its results have become obviously evident as the world’s iniquity fills up full. Evil and wickedness are at an incredibly mature state of proliferation.  All I could see at first glance of the field was the ripeness of evil. But, less obvious to the natural eye, there really was a harvest being produced. The children of the promise are counted for the seed. [Rom 9:8]. There is a bumper crop coming up and it isn’t a bumper crop of weeds! There is a harvest coming for the Kingdom of God.

The church is not yet fully mature!  This is why the field hasn’t been gathered up yet. We need to “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” [2 Pet 3:18]. We need to keep growing and growing until “we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ” [Eph 4:13]—the fulness of stature, reputation, and influence of Christ. Becoming like our Lord and Savior who is the Lily of the valleys! When we are like Him, we are mature, we carry the fragrance of life. So, while the weeds swirl and blow all around you, continue to grow and mature in Him who is our hope and deliverance. You are born of an incorruptible seed!
